It seems that Catcher’s hardcore reputation precedes them.

Building a solid foundation as an upcoming band in NYC can be a difficult task at the best of times, yet Catcher has been able to command audiences across the city throughout the pandemic in a magnetising way. Known for live performances which are, simply put, absolute chaotic masterpieces, the Brooklyn-based band are stamping their presence on the post-punk music scene with the debut LP “The Fat of a Broken Heart”.

The LP opens with the hauntingly wonky vocals of Austin Eichler in “A Good Man”, inviting the audience in with what sounds more akin to a stripped version, before warming into the shredding sound of guitar like a warning: We are Catcher and we are here to make ourselves heard.

The music then explodes through previously released singles “Behind a Bleeding Heart”, “Fallen Stones”, and “Comparing Saviours and Friends” – all of which received high praise across a multitude of publications.

The new LP also delivers new music from the band and boy does Catcher know exactly what we’ve been asking for. The punk-rock grunge energy of the group bleeds thick throughout the record, with the blend of drums, guitars, bass, and vocals combining of form a hectic symphony of sound that just works.

You can understand what is so alluring about this band. The music lends itself completely to the live performance – you can practically imagine the group on stage, the pounding vibrations unconsciously taking over your body. The songs are crafted to feel as though you are being forced forward to explore this eccentric and eclectic world created by Catcher, each instrument layering upon each other to add more depth.

The record is indeed like the fat of a broken heart; it’s gritty and grisly, encompassed by the pounding sound of rhythmic drums and guitars, yet also broken and exposed by the raw vocals and lyrics.

All I can say is, Catcher have come to to impress and are here to stay.

Catcher’s debut record “The Fat of a Broken Heart” will be out 18th February.

CATCHER BIO:

Catcher is a Brooklyn-based post-punk band with a reputation for visceral and powerful live performances. Drawing comparisons to Iceage and Protomartyr, Catcher deliver music with a driving and inundating low-end, provided by childhood friends Cameron McRae and Wilson Chestney, on bass and drums respectively. Guitarists Jack Young and Christian Reech — each having been recruited earlier this year via a Craigslist ad and connection via the band's shared Tinder — interweave melodies and noise to create an environment that manages to be at once both bleak and moving, desolate but hopeful, violent but tender. Vocalist Austin Eichler commands listeners with a domineering and chaotic presence. From drawling croons to powerful screams, Austin’s narrative lyrics invoke a wide spectrum of emotion while creating a world of their own. Through endless hours of practice and work, the band has crafted a gripping and tight live performance and a growing international fanbase.
