Celebrating their latest disco-pop album, Gold Star Baby, The Aces return to Philadelphia
Adorned in leather jackets and hot pink feather boas, The Aces took the stage at The Theatre of Living Arts. Bringing disco-pop back (as if it ever left), the four-piece group’s musical evolution continues in this latest project.
“This album is all about joy, confidence, even cockiness, and sex appeal. We feel now that we’re grown women, we can explore those things in a way that feels authentic and exciting. This album is for anyone that’s looking for an escape in the more than challenging world we live in.’" - The Aces
Pop rock singer-songwriter Lydia Night took the stage to start off the night. Performing her singles “The Hearse” and “Pity Party”, she also included a cover of Justin Bieber’s “Baby” to get the audience dancing.
“Jealous” started The Aces set, the colorful lighting and gold emblem background reflective of the Gold Star Baby album art. “Twin Flame”, “The Magic”, and “You Got Me” were also highlights to be heard live for the very first time this tour. Explaining the album to the crowd, lead singer Cristal Ramirez explained Gold Star Baby was about finding their magic; other generations referred to this magic as “mojo” or “rizz” for those under the age of twenty-five. The band celebrated Morgan, and crowned her Philadelphia’s Gold Star Baby, and the audience gossiped during the band’s “Tea Of The Week” segment – truly such special ways to make this show memorable. Old favorties like “Daydream”, “Volcanic Love”, and “Girls Make Me Wanna Die” had their moments as well, rounding out the setlist to be a collection of new and old favorites.
