New York-raised, LA-based Julia Wolf has been taking the world by storm with her DIY mentality and gothic approach to slice-of-life musings. Underground photographer Melody Myers had the opportunity to take portraits of this rising star and we’re so excited to share more about Julia Wolf and her work.
Wolf wears her heart on her sleeve as an artist. Though she has a specifically crafted aesthetic world around her music, it all stems from a very true part of herself, honoring the young, shy girl who listened to Avril Lavigne and spent hours in the school library reading horror novels. The visual world Wolf has curated is emblematic of her early influences, one of the most relevant being the Twilight series, which continues to inspire her and her merch.
Wolf has noted that her love of horror as a genre and aesthetic atmosphere originally stemmed from her mother introducing her to Tim Burton movies. But both of her parents were supportive of her artistic interests from the very start, with her dad even changing course to support Wolf’s music career at a time when they nearly moved to Italy to open up a pizza restaurant.
Julia Wolf’s music is a unique melting pot of influences. Her Italian-American heritage has led to songs sung in both Italian and English (see “In My Way” and “RBF: Part 1”) and her interest in hip-hop and rap is evident in some of her earlier material (“Styrofoam Cup”).
But the sound she’s been exploring the most lately seamlessly blends the nu metal and pop punk instrumentals she resonated so much with in her youth with her signature soft pop vocals, which truly shine in contrast (see “Loser,” “Last Summer,” “Wishbone,” and “Burning House”).
And Wolf’s music spans even wider than that. For fans of Anna Shoemaker, “Jennifer’s Body” may be your next hyperfixation, and fans of Phoebe Bridgers’ stark lyricism will connect with Wolf’s writing in “In My Room.”
Fans of blackbear should give a listen to “Gothic Babe Tendencies” off Wolf’s second album Good Thing We Stayed. After posting a teaser of the song to Instagram to promote the song and upcoming album, blackbear commented asking if he could write a verse and Wolf immediately said yes, leading to a unique collaboration.
And that wasn’t the only time social media became a helpful resource for Wolf’s music. In her project’s beginning stages, Wolf and collaborator Jackson Foote would post snippets of songs to Instagram and see which ones fans were resonating with to determine what to roll out.
Wolf has a new album on the way and, though we don’t get any Instagram teasers this time around, this is going to be an exciting one if the singles are any indication! PRESSURE will include previously released singles “In My Room,” “Jennifer’s Body,” and “Loser” and will be released May 23, 2025.
To support her upcoming album, she’ll be going on an international tour and headlining cities across the U.S. and Europe, many for the first time! This follows on the heels of her supporting Artemas on select U.S. tour dates. Further out in 2025, Wolf will be playing Riot Fest in Chicago.
A hefty chunk of PRESSURE dates have already sold out, so be sure to get your tickets quick, you won’t want to miss this one.
