Sometimes music can just feel like a hug, wrapping warm arms around as you fall completely into the comfort of the melody. Indie-folk duo nudista’s release ‘inasmuch’ is exactly that, a reassuring you got this for when times get tough.
Written by Pilar and Robbie during the pandemic, the song asks the listener to be open to change and challenge beliefs imposed on them by others. Pilar’s angelic vocals are accompanied by soft guitar and gentle percussion; the soothing tone of the song kindly supporting the melancholic lyrics, “I won’t lie to you and say it’s alright”.
‘inasmuch’ music video further projects this sense of comfort, set in a conventionally English kitchen, complete with a boiling kettle and fluffy knit jumpers. nudista offers such as sense of comfort whilst not shying away from thought-provoking themes. It is a creatively masterful juxtaposition.
Their debut EP ‘Halfway Here’, coming out 31st March, stands as an in-between state; floating between presence and distraction, desperation and hope. To Pilar, the EP stands as “a kind of processing tool, about being forced to be ‘okay’ all the time and having to disguise our anxieties in our daily lives”.
