Moon Tide Gallery’s newest EP “Good Boy” has set the bar almost unreachably high for any other psychedelic indie rock projects released in 2022. Is February too early to say this is my favorite album of the year?

The EP opens with Winona’s Elevator, possibly my favorite track in this collection (even though it’s impossibly hard to only pick one). I don’t think there’s a single adjective in the dictionary that can accurately describe how this song makes me feel as a listener (euphoric and nostalgic come close, though). There are so many unique elements in this track that work incredibly well together, creating a piece of art in a class by itself.

Sex VHS was the first song from this EP released to the public. And I’m so happy it was! Because it’s a perfect introduction to “Good Boy”. Bringing in a plethora of distinctive sounds and warm vibes, listening to this track is a surreal experience. It’s as if Moon Tide Gallery took the feeling of looking into a kaleidoscope and made it into a song. (I hope I'm not crazy and this makes sense)

Yourz and Puppy are just incredible. The accent of wind instruments throughout the tracks paired with gracefully light vocals and heartfelt lyrics; it’s magnetic. The ballad of Yourz is a dreamlike, emotional experience. I think we’ve all experienced the “if I was yours” moment, almost like a feeling of yearning, which this song perfectly encapsulates. Puppy has an exceptionally remarkable melody, entrancing listeners with the way all of the individual elements flow together so wonderfully.

I am in love with the saxophone and how prominent it is in Sadism. This track left me pretty speechless; the way the instruments and the vocals compliment each other is insanely compelling. It’s unlike anything I’ve heard before.

Lungs finishes out “Good Boy” and is another song that has left me without words. It’s the perfect atmospheric closing to such a divine EP, a track where you can move with the music and feel everything that was put into it.

I’ve used the word “unique” and every synonym in the book a million times throughout this review, but that’s exactly what Moon Tide Gallery are. Every track on this EP is a journey unlike any other, evoking intense uninhibited emotion and unlocking ears to new combinations of sounds. Each song brings its own sense of comfort, whether it’s found in the relatability of the lyrics or the ethereal sounds sending you into a state of bliss. I can’t wait to continue watching Moon Tide Gallery create and grow!

Make sure to support the new EP and come see em in nyc + baltimore this week!
