Grayscale is proof that one doesn't need a sold out stadium and insane production to put on a good show.

On their second headlining tour in the United States for their album "Nella Vita", this alternative rock group was joined by WSTR and Hot Mulligan, with LURK being an honorable mention, as they had not been able to make the California dates. Amped up by WSTR's goofy banter and the miniature moshpit that had started during Hot Mulligan's set, fans still refused to tire by the time that Grayscale's set started, yelling along to the upbeat chorus of the opening song, "Just Right" and enthusiastically merging their voices with frontman Collin Walsh's smooth vocals.

The setlist was all energy, an amalgamation of the heavier songs from "Adornment" such as "Fever Dream" and "Atlantic", as well as the bouncier tunes from "Nella Vita" with songs like "What's On Your Mind" and "Desert Queen", the latter having its live debut on this run of the North American tour. Not only filled with fresh, synthesized sounds, Grayscale also managed to implement their classic songs for a more nostalgic tone, creating a well-loved set for all fans of the band. The Philadelphia-based quintet played "Echoes (Carry On)" which had been retired from their setlists since last June, as well as "Palette" from their sophomore EP "What We're Missing".

Meanwhile, the energy from the performance and set translated well to the crowd. While there were those chilling in the alcoholic section as there always tends to be, others took it upon themselves to crowd-surf across the small room, ending up right on stage with the band. And even for those who were at neither end of the spectrum, they were still singing along in what resembled a well-practiced unison.

Overall, Grayscale managed to create an impassioned set within the intimate venue of the Catalyst Atrium, making fans feel far closer, physically and emotionally, to the members than in wider scope concerts.
