On February 18th, LA and NYC based musician Sizzy Rocket released her latest single titled "THAT BITCH," which will appear on her upcoming album currently in the works. Listening to this track really does make you feel like THAT bitch, with its fun—yet powerful—lyrics reminding you to own all of your rough edges. Sizzy Rocket continues to inspire her audience by being unapologetically herself, and by spreading the important message of self-love.
I had the amazing opportunity to ask Sizzy a few questions regarding her newest single, upcoming album, and DIY scene. Below, you can check out the interview, and her new music video for "THAT BITCH."
How does your single “THAT BITCH” differ from music you’ve released in the past? I think “THAT BITCH” is one of the most aggressive songs I've ever released — in the past I've definitely been softer and more vulnerable.
Is there a specific inspiration behind the lyrics to the track?
I just wanted the lyrics to be fun and powerful… some real reckless rockstar shit. My favorite line is "throw the TV out the window of my hotel.”
What has the writing and recording process been like for your upcoming album? Does it differ at all to the process behind your 2019 release “Grrrl”?
Absolutely, there was a huge difference. GRRRL was written over a longer period of time and pieced together slowly. For this upcoming record we got the whole thing written and recorded over a period of 8 days in 2 sessions — one session was in a loft in Downtown LA and the second session was in Laurel Canyon. I also lived in the spaces while we were recording which helped me completely immerse myself in the world we were creating.
How do you incorporate a piece of you and your personality into your recorded music, live sets, and music videos?
I think it would be impossible to exclude my personality from my work.
Has your local DIY scene influenced you or any aspects of your work?
Yes! There are so many artists and so much art happening here in LA all the time. There's always live music and writing sessions and music videos going on so it's easy to get out there and meet people and make it happen here. That accessibility has definitely influenced my grassroots style and process.
What does 2020 look like for you in terms of new music, touring, and personal goals?
Oh... I'm going for it. New album, new tour, new everything.
Do you have any advice for those starting out in the music industry?
Take the time to fully develop your vision and don't let anyone else define it for you!
