The guys of Nashville based Indie pop band COIN released a new single for their upcoming Dreamland Tour around the U.S. In this lovely new single, the boys of COIN decided it would be special to release this piece on the day of love. However, the song itself isn’t exactly synonymous with the holiday’s meaning. The group’s song “Valentine” starts off with a dream pop feel, lead singer Chase Lawrence prompting the question, “You ever love something so much it hurts?”

This sets up the rest of the lyrics to talk about what complications arise with loving someone else. It’s ultimately a love letter to anyone who has ever felt something so immense that they couldn’t handle it, that it consumed them, and they just didn’t know what to do with it.

The premise of the song is heavy, but the beat is in complete contrast, making you want to dance around and fall in love with the beautiful moments we have to ourselves, and those we might share with someone we love.

I feel that they did an excellent job of creating a scene that’s relatable. The lyrics are simple and repetative, yet they are sentiments that anyone can relate to and respect. Feeling so in love and being able to do nothing about it, having a case of the butterflies for someone that never will feel the same way: we’ve all felt it. And COIN brilliantly summed up the entire human quest for love in a few short lines from “Valentine.”

COIN has an upcoming show on their Dreamland tour, with Sure Sure, at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey, for any Jersey readers!
